About

Background

Andrew and Nick met over a decade ago in business, working together in marketing, advertising and general senior leadership. The beauty of chance meant we ended up living 100m away from each other when Nick moved to Letchworth during lockdown, something we discovered by chance after an off-the-cuff tweet about the local bookshop.

Aside from business, we've always been keen athletes. Andrew has completed an ironman and many other ultra endurance events, and Nick has been a hobbyist ultra-marathoner, marathoner and gran fondo cyclist.

But those key milestones were in our 20s, and now, both with kids, high=pressure jobs, and less time, carving out space for exercise and the sports we enjoy has become more and more difficult.

Life is busy. It's school runs, deadlines, and a calendar packed with everyone else's commitments. The bike in the shed is a good intention, a whisper of a Sunday morning you don't have time for anymore. And with Letchworth no longer having a dedicated cycling club, and other clubs in the area not appealing, we thought 'why not set up our own?'

The LGC Casuals were born out of wanting to cater to our own needs - wanting to cycle with others, wanting an excuse and accountability to get out on the bike again, and wanting to ride in a way that reflects we are no longer aspiring tour pros. We'll still embrace our inner MAMILS in a case of 'all the gear, some idea'. We hope to find others like us to come for a social ride with the aim of everyone coming away having enjoyed it.
